Independent is the end goal.
Hey it's Mark. I created That Pitch.
Independent musicians are my favorite musicians. 10 years and running, I've kept my music, and my music business independent, sharp, and profitable – on purpose. Why? Because independent is not less than. It's greater than. It's faster than. It's more fun than. It's more genuine than. It's friendlier than.
It's overall? Better than.
I'm for the Billboard 1,000,000.
Most music companies fight over the Billboard 100. The influencers, the hits, the huge catalogs, the major label contracts.
They can have them.
My favorite musicians are the Billboard 1,000,000. The tastemakers of the world, the bedroom producers, the artists that do the coolest work, even if it may not be the biggest work.
Something about a track from a scene I knew little of, or an artist playing a wild show inspired by things I've never heard of, and (most importantly) has a crazy story to tell – always got me excited.
Got 3 tracks? I'd be stoked to have you here. Producing tracks from your tour van? Hell yeah. I may just pull up to the show too. Locked in the studio with 1,000 demos sitting on your hard drive? That's what I call a “studio rat” – my favorite kind of animal.
Independent is not less than. It's greater than. It's faster than. It's friendlier than. It's more fun than. It's more genuine than. It's better than.
I'm in your corner.
I answer to no one but you. I don't have investors (intentionally), I don't have a board of directors (intentionally), I'm never going to take on venture capital (intentionally).
I don't have to raise money at country clubs every weekend, present powerpoints to the board every thursday, push upsells on you to hit revenue targets, or manipulate evaluations to make venture capitalists even richer. I don't have plans to sell the business. I don't even have a desire for it.
I'm quite simply: an independent, self-sufficient musician focused on making cool things – just like you are. Stable and reliable, 10 years and running, producing in the cut, helping out the crew along the way.
Signing up for That Pitch is investing in yourself, your music, your future, and your scene. You in the foreground, That Pitch in the background – together we'll show them what independent can do.
Thanks for reading, and giving That Pitch a try.
